Default Hamster randomly started sneezing and unknown bald patch.

One of my hamsters started sneezing randomly and has been sneezing on and off for the past few minutes. What could have caused it? An could she be getting sick? I haven't gave her anything new.what can I do to make sure she's not sick? If she is what should I be looking for?

She does how ever have a missing patch of fur that has never grown back I'm and no fur on one of her back legs.

I haven't got an idea how she is missing fur there it's like peach fuzz now. No body anywhere has given me an answer. I haven't asked her though what it could be.

Ok so my hamster daisy has been missing a patch of fur on her side near her back end and I can't seem to figure out why or what is causing the fur not to come back. I think it's something to do with a gland. I can't take her to the vet because there is none in my area that see hamsters that are actually specialized in them. She has been missing the fur sense like augest and I can't find an answer or solution to it on my own or with books and th Internet at all. At one point the fur looked like it was coming back but now it's back to how it was. Thats why I am asking for help now.

Is the hamster still sneezing? I'm afraid that sneezing in hamsters is usually a sign that the hamster needs vet treatment. Hopefully its just a one off and the ham is ok

I also doubt that fur loss can be diagnosed from a description

I understand that you may not have any local vets who see hamsters but even if the sneezing has stopped you do need to find a vet who will see your hamsters in the future. Not all conditions can be treated at home, many hamster health issues do require vet treatment, sometimes hamsters need medication only a vet can give, othertimes they need the vet for other reasons. Plus unfortunately you may find yourself in a situation where you have a hamster suffering badly and needing euthansia, a vet will be very handy then too.
I personally rely on my own vets a lot, without them some of my hams lives would be very different and theres a chance Fwirl wouldn't be here at all. I'm sorry to say it to someone who doesn't currently have a vet, but if I couldn't get my pets to a vet I'd not feel comfortable keeping them and knowing they could end up suffering one day because of my inability to see a vet with them.

The thing this there's noooo vets in my area who look at rodents as pets they look at them as a "replaceable animal". And many wont even look at them. They don't think spending a bunch of money in a hamster or rat is right or even looking at them. Even if they did they wouldn't know anything about hamsters. The only exotics vet is a good two hours away and would cost be a couple hundred for them to even look at her to
Give me an answer to what's wrong not including the cost for the medication she would possibly need.

The sneezing stoped but the missing fur I am sure is a glande problem after doing more research on fur conditions with hamsters.

Hello MitsyKitty. You might try the pet shop where you got your hammy, or other pet shops in your area. They usually have a vet they use to ensure the health of the animals they sell. Or you could inquire if they can help you contact the hammy breeders they use because the breeders may either be able to help, or may be able to put you onto a vet closer to you. Just a thought... If all goes well with your hammy you should establish a relationship with a vet for future needs. I would certainly do so before getting another hammy at a future date.

I can't do that her mother was my hamster, she was pregnant when I got her. I think I forgot to add that part. Also the pet store gets their pets from all kinds of places including people that drops their pets off there. So they don't get checked at all before going into the shop for sale. We had taken guinea pigs to them that we couldn't home and they put them straight in the cages with other piggies with out even doing medical checks on them or to see if they had any bugs. Even thought they didn't buy you would think that would be a rule.

The only pet store near here that I know has a vet if pet smart but I am pretty sure the only animals their vet sees is ones that come from petsmart. I might have to look into that.

Also I have had hamsters sense I was 4 and this is the first hamster to ever have a health problem. So I didn't think of having a vet for them also I am 17 and don't have a job I am currently making hammocks and selling them in my area to have enough to pay for my rat food. The rat food is to expensive for them to buy apparently.

If you had any advice on how to look for anything to do with the hair loss that would be great she hasn't sneezed at all today so I think she must of got something up her nose.

There are so many reasons for a hammy to lose hair and the methods to treat hair loss usually require a vet's help. I wish I had better advice for you. I hope Petsmart can help, or at least get you hooked up with a vet. Since this has happened to you now, it's really important to start saving for a vet fund if you can. I'd love to see one of your hammocks because I'm actually looking for some for my babies. Post a photo of one, okay?

I cant figure out how to upload a picture from my iPod or I would. And do you know of any common reasons for hair loss? She's white but her head is a orangey yellow and she's aliytle more then one. Her mother was all white and I believe died from a high white gene.

Is their anything I could give her for an antibiotic like for rats raw honey is. What are some antibiotics that you can buy at stores for hamsters?

You can't buy antibiotics anywhere except the vets for hamsters, and given that used too often they're bad anyway I kinda think its a good thing thats the case. I'm not sure how effective raw honey would be as an antibiotic either really... I may be wrong but I've never heard of it being effective on internal bacteria. I've heard of manuka honey being good on cuts but I haven't even tried that really

There are lots of common causes of fur loss, but none of us are vets so we can't diagnose over the internet.

You're very lucky you've not needed a vet before, but I do think you should put a lot of effort into finding one for if your ham does ever need antibiotics or surgery e.t.c

See thee is him remedies for stuff there's lots for rats so there must be some for hamsters. I have tried to find a vet I can't say that enough on here I just want help by people that know hamsters more then me.

If I had the money and a vet to take them to I wouldn't asking for help on here. There has got to be someone who can answer my questions on here.

I just want to know some common fur loss problems and symptoms with it. I don't want every single one just some so I can see if anything matches up with what she could have and then either find what I need for her or find something I can buy like for example dark
Chocolate is an aid in clearing breathing ways for rats with URIs. At lest something I can give her incase anything gets worse to help with pain or other things if they happen.
