Default Nightmare?

My new hammie (Claude) just started making a reaaally loud screeching sounds in his sleep. He stopped for a second and then woke up and started making it again.

Is there a chance he has had a nightmare?
He calmed down once he'd woken up a bit, went for a wonder and a sniff and think he's settled back to sleep.

The sound is so horrible and scared the living stuffing out of me.

A couple of my hams used to make that sound too. I never ever found out what caused them to do it either.

I don't know if hams have nightmares, but I've had a ham do it before so its nothing to really worry about, maybe they just get spooked and woken suddenly, or have a bad dream as you say!

It's not happened since, which is a relief.
He hadn't been woken suddenly as the first lot of screeching happened whilst was still asleep and then he woke up when I went over to him and screeched again.

Poor thing. Settling in nicely now though i think
