Default I think Pip has mites :(

I had Pip out this morning and I was checking him over and found a red raw patch on his belly. He's been scratching a lot recently so I suspect he has mites. What do you think?

I'm going to get him to the vets tomorrow. Is there anything else I can do for him the meantime? I can't believe I didn't spot this earlier

It looks like a scratch to me and seems above the ventral scent gland. Are his nails long? He may be annoying at a healing scratch and making it red. Best have it checked at the vets though to me it does not look like mites.

that don't look like mites to me. i've got 2 robos recovering from mites right now. Usually the baldiness with be on the back of the neck or rump. That looks like something to do with the scent glad, perhaps it's got infected or soemthing. The vets will be able to tell you

Thanks for that - I was thinking he might not like the shavings he's on or something. He is scratching and nibbling around his legs a lot as well. I'll make saure I get him to the vets asap.

Any other suggestions or advice greatly appreciated!

It just looks like a scratch to me too. Yes they can get mites but none of ours have ever had it neither any of ours ever through many hammies we have had had ever had it. I would get him checked just incase. It could have been his claws he got an irritation and did it.

Back from the vets with a rather grumpy Pip. Ity looks like he either has mites or may have had them at some point and the area has got infected. The area under his arms is bright red (you can't see it in the pic) and it looks like he's scratched it raw.

He's now on Baytril, some drops to kill any remaining mites and some drops to soothe the itching. He squeaked all the way thruogh the vets and squeaked when I did the drops just now so I'm just going to let him relax a bit now.

Poor little guy has had a stressful day
