Urinating in their wheels
I have a one year old male syrian hamster who seems fine in every other way, however for a while now he has been urinating in his wheel - whilst he is running in it I believe, he has a comfort wheel. It is making his cage a bit smelly so I have to clean the wheel frequently - which is not a problem for me but I do worry in case something may be wrong, he does not drink all that much and is eating and behaving normally. Does anyone else have this problem with any of their hamsters

Is he a long hair hamsterman? Our LH seems to pee in his potty but the sand and wet fur seem to transfer pee to the wheel so it often needs washed. He could be doing this too. As long is he seems healthy and normal self I would not worry.

i've never had a syrian do it but dwarfs do, espcially robos and chinese. They pee and then run so it flings all over the place. My robos get up from the nest, walk to the wheel, pee, then go back to bed.

None of my Syrians do it but my Robo girls do it all the time
I don't really think it's too much of a problem as long as he seems ok in every other aspect, I can't really see any way of discouraging it though either

My Campbells', especially Max - are professionals at this.
He's obviously a typical boy - very lazy! And can't be bothered getting of his wheel to wee :P

He's a short haired syrian, during the night he really loves being in his wheel and seems to be in it for ages, I suppose he could be doing it in there, but thinking about it, it is also possible he is peeing in his potty and then with wet feet and sawdust, getting in his wheel and depositing bits in there like that, he is in good health generally and is eating normally - I was just a bit worried as Blinky is my first hamster. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Ive had syrians that do this - scruffy pups!
Im sure that probably once he has done it 'by accident' so to speak he can then smell it as his 'wee place' so uses it again and again.
I think there is not much you can do apart from keep cleaning it to be honest!

Quite a few of mine do this, girls and boys and all syrians. I mainly have wodent wheels and it doesn't impress me taking apart a wee-ridden wheel to wash..
