Drinking?
So the water bottle that came with my hamster's cage was broken. I set it up and let her get settled in the cage, and came back an hour later and it had flooded the entire top level. I had to to take everything out and dry it and for some reason it just didn't seal right. You can hold it up and watch the water drip out of it.
I found a small dish for her and set it in there, but I was worried she wasn't drinking. I've seen her drink a bunch out of the dish a couple times and I've hand fed her water with the bottle about three times, but I'm still worried she's not getting enough?
She's not lethargic or anything, and she's being quite active, so I think she's okay, I'm just wondering.

Re: Drinking?
My mouse chewed a hole through his water bottle once, went the whole night without any water at all, since I didn't see it till the next morning. He was fine, and mice are smaller than hamsters, meaning they dehydrate quicker.
So, as long as she's drinking from the dish, she should be fine. Just be sure to change it frequently, since substrate tends to get in it, and get a new bottle asap.

Re: Drinking?
At first I thought my hamster wasn't drinking out a bowl, as hamsters don't drink significant amounts, but I left him for a few days and he lived if you are worried give him cucumber in small amounts until you get a new bottle!!!

Re: Drinking?
As long as she has a heavy ceramic bowl to drink from she will have a water source, which is the main thing. Buy a couple of the Classic water bottles as these are the best bottles and have never let me down and I`ve used them for years. They usually have red tops, but can sometimes have blue and yellow tops, but the red topped Classic bottles are usually easy to find in pet shops, Pets At Home and ebay/online.

Re: Drinking?
I think she's getting more used to the dish in her cage since I saw her drinking out of it this morning.
I don't know what's wrong with the bottle that came with the cage, but I plan on changing it out as soon as I can.
Thanks. : D
