Re: Syrian Hamster Weight
I was always concerned of my Syrian being underweight. When he was full grown, he weighed in at only 103 grams. He always seemed cold and just too small. I got him a food brand with plenty of fatty nuts and he has recently gained 10 grams over the last few months. He just seems happier now. He doesn't appear cold and his coat looks a lot fuller.

Show hamsters are usually 200 - 300g, sometimes weighing more. For a pet shop ham I think around 140g is average, but some still do weigh less. It depends on your hamsters skeletal structure - if you can see or easily feel the spine then they are most likely underweight. If they're overweight they will usually have 'rolls' or flabs of skin. 90g does sound very small for a syrian.

Re: Syrian Hamster Weight
This is such a good post, thank you. I was worried my Ralph was getting a little fat, I weigh him every Thursday, he's 190g, but reading this it looks like he's currently average and I shouldn't worry if he gets a little fatter. He's been steadily putting weight on, a few grams each week, since I brought him in February.

Re: Syrian Hamster Weight
I shouldn't worry Ralphieboy - our last Syrian was 225g - he shot up in weight in the first few weeks we had him (not fully grown) - some hammies are just bigger all over - a bit like humans - some are taller, some are shorter

Re: Syrian Hamster Weight
I have read they should weigh an ounce for every inch not sure if this info is accurate or not. We bought our Syrian hamster from a pet store. I believe that she is about 4 1/2 inches long or 11.3 centimeters and she weighs about 4.7 ounces or 133 grams. She does not feel frail or cold. She enjoys eating and is strong.

Re: Syrian Hamster Weight
Hey kesaiserris, my syrian hamster, Kiwi girl weighs 124 grams and she is around 12 cm. She sleeps around 15 hours per day and the rest of the time she keeps running non-stop... Consider that she is only 4.5 months old, the weight is kinda light though.
I think your hammie is in a quite good health.
