Default Giving Hampster Bath?

Is there any way that I clean my hampster?

He's recently started to smell. I clean his cage as much as I can, but my mother will eventually make me get rid of him if he stinks.

Hi JodiRoyer,

Can you give us any more detail about the problem? If cages are cleaned regularly hamsters really shouldn't smell too much at all, certainly not enough to be described as a stink.

What sort of hamster is he (syrian or dwarf) and are you sure he is a male? How old is he? How often is the cage cleaned out, what do you use to clean it and what bedding do you use? Is he wet around his back end at all, is it his potty corner that smells more than usual? Any changes you've noticed in him at all?

As Candace has said bathing a hamster is not a good idea, certainly never bathe a hamster just because they smell - there will be a reason for the smell that needs addressing.
