Default Plucking out fur?

So, some of you might have read my thread about finding Charlotte's tail furless. Well the tail fur is beginning to grow back, but I just caught her plucking out the fur on her hind legs to the point there is bald patches.

Is she stressed out about something? Could it just be obsessive grooming gone overboard? Or something to do with old age that is causing her to do this?

Have you had a vet check for mites?

No, not yet. I thought I would get the opinion of HC before I book an appointment.

Skin irritation from something like mites would be my first thought for an animal plucking out fur espcially if there is any redness. I would want to rule out any potential medical causes first & then if all clear medically start to look at behavioural issues. So yes, I would get an exotics vet opinion & then go from there.

Good luck

I do have a vet who does exotics, Charlotte went to them at the beginning of the year for a UTI. I'll give them a call and see if they think Charlotte needs to go in. By the way, she's over a year and a half now, I forgot to mention that.

And thank you. Let's hope it is not mites or something worse. I can only think she got the mites, if they are mites, from some new toys, the Carefresh, or the new cat is carrying some and the mites somehow made it to the hamsters. The cat possibility is really slim as the new cat rarely goes to see the hamsters, Zim normally chases him off from watching the hamsters (Zim is very protective of them), and I only saw him on the cage once (but he might have done it more when I wasn't around or asleep) but Zim was quick to chase him off it then.
