Exclamation Hamster testicles

Hi everyone,
I know this isn't the nicest topic but I'm getting more worried about Sammy my 3 month old Sydian.

On Sunday he wouldn't eat a thing, not even his favourite green pepper. Every breath he took I could hear a loud click. Come the evening this stopped and he just slept.

Throughout the week he has sounded better. The clicking has stopped and been replaced with sneezing and more teeth Chattering than normal. his appetite is back and he is drinking a minute amount as normal. He's never keen to come out but now he's changed and he's incredibly nervous, I can't even stroke him now.

He feels slightly Colder than normal to the touch, not cold just colder.

Now, his eyes are shiny, but his nose is clear so I'm not sure if one of the noises are sneezing. I put an open Jar of Vicks on top of the cage and the sneezing is less.

Now to the subject of this post. His balls! We all know hamsters have huge balls, but are they meant to be inside the body? Sammy has two little red balls outside next to his tail the size of a petit pois pea each. Going to try and attach a pic.

I've trawled the net for hours and nothing says anything about them being outside....

It sounds as if he may have either an allergy or a bit of a chest infection. As he is not behaving normally I think it may be wise to have him checked by the vet as he may need some antibiotic. The clicking is often a sign of a chest infection and the vet can sound the chest.
The testicles sound normal to me. It's because it is quite warm just now that they are dropping down. They can look rather odd and stick out at odd angles and they are quite mobile within the scrotum. They have given many people a scare when they think thir hamster has a tumour! Sometimes one pokes out like a peanut under the skin and sometimes you see two around the tail! They are often out when they come out the warm nest too

Hi souffle
Thanks for the reassurance. I don't think it's an allergy as he carries on when I take him out of the cage. I've not changed the brands of bedding or wood shavings, but have noticed that he has cleared down to the plastic based wherever he sits. The red balls have been there since last week before it got hot, so maybe he is irratated. Will change the wood shavings now if he is still the same when I get home will go to the vets

I read that their boy bits stay more into the body when its cold and drop down when its hot. Its does sound as if he has a cold. The weather's been very hot lately which doesn't help. I agree, get him checked out if only to put your mind at rest
