Default Carmelo's aging and health concerns...

Hello everyone! I have not updated in awhile and I am sorry for that. School has made me so busy! Anyways, I am concerned about Carmelo. He is aging and I'm estimating that he's about 3 or a little over that. He sleeps alot and doesn't exercise (even when I put him in his ball!). I try to give him less table scraps. I give him healthier food and his usual Harry Hamster food of 3 tablespoons. My concern is his size. I think he is a little large for a hamster. I've notice his back end has gotten quite large and it worries me. I'm hoping it's just the food and not something else. (Like cancer) He are a few pictures...

look suspicious?

also, he has loss of fur and his skin seems to flake a little bit. any at home or store remedy I could use to moisturize it?

Thank you!

His back end looks hideously wrong to me, as if his tummy is swollen and perhaps there is a tumour growing there :S

I did think at first it was just his body shape and towards his head might be thinner through weight loss but his back end looks grossly misshapen.

I would get him to a vet to be checked out for an internal tumour

I think I'd visit the vet too. I hope he's okay.

*hyperventilates* Oh my god...this is NOT good. I felt his stomach too and it felt odd. sometimes a bump here or there...the vet i went to when he hurt his leg doesn't really specialize in small animals...I guess I will start searching for vets.

Carmelo is a fantastic age hammiesarelove and he is in his twilight years. Can I just tell you that he is exactly like our dear little Runty who died age 3years and 2 months. Now Runty gradually got bigger and bigger just like Carmelo and slept a lot too but that is normal for an old ham. We took him to the vet and yes he did have a large tumour but it was not affecting anything else and the vet said he was not in pain, which we knew was true because he acted just the same as always. The vet said to bring him back when we knew the time had come to give him rest. Gradually he became slower but he never stopped eating, pooping and enjoying his out-time and died peacefully in his sleep.
Everyone says see a vet but if he were mine I would not do this unless he is in pain, not eating or having trouble weeing or pooing. If he has any problems then I would take him. At his age I doubt they would do anything and I think he deserves to have all his loving normality continue till his time comes. Give him his scraps and spoil him rotten. Carmelo will tell you when he needs to go and when that time comes you can choose whether to help him with his journey at the vets or allow him to leave at home.
I am sorry it is not good news but you know him best and I like to be honest. My heart is with you as you treasure this time with him.
Hugs to you and the lovely man Carmelo.

Carmelo is very much a senior citizen by now Hammiesrlovex3, though he is still a lovely little guy. souffle's thoughts are very good ones, and I would just spend lots of time with him and make some happy memories to see you through in the future.
We have all read and seen pictures of Carmelo on your HC visits, and we all, Im sure, feel for you hearing this. As long as carmelo is obviously not suffering I would take lots of photos and enjoy some quiet cuddles together.
My Peanut is coming up to 3 years old now, and so I know, as you do, that our time together is drawing to a close. I talk to him lots, and feed him his favourite titbits, as well as making sure that I tell him I love him every day, just in case.

Im sure all of our thoughts are with you, and may Carmelo's passing, when it happens, be peaceful and surrounded by love. x
