Is this alright
I just put some daily multivitamins in Whispers water. It says that it is for pregnant and nursing hammies. It's made up of vitamins and minerals. Is this good for her? I asked the vet and he said it is very good because the babies are taking all of it from her and definatly need it to grow. Has anyone done this with a new mommy?

I have never had a nursing mom ham, but we use the vitamins for all three of ours, with no difficulties. Just follow the directions for the proper amount to add to the drinking source.

Hmm I wonder though, is it making much of a difference? hamster dont drink a large amount of water. Your probably better off offering foods like tofu, boiled egg, and wheat germ maybe some kind of dry cat chow or kitten chow and things of that nature.
Its like "dritail" put in water for hamsters with wet tail, its just not a reliable way to make sure they are getting the right dosage or on your case the right amount of protine and nutriants.
Just my thoughts, maybe someone esle will expand,

Right now I give both boiled egg, wheat germ, and strawberries. They gobble both of them up as soon as I put them in there.

We originally started to use them when Cori had a thinning spot on his back. He did not have mites, and someone suggested them due to a deficiency that could cause this problem. It worked great, and after 4 months, and using the same bottle of vitamins for all three, we still have a good deal left. Ours usually go through a third of their water bottles in a week. I know it helped Cori, but do not know of the benefits for the others, but it hasn't caused any problems either.

I'd only give vitamin supplements in hamsters that are sick, elderly, pregnant or nursing. There's simply no need to give supplements to healthy hamsters on good diets, and too much of something can be just as dangerous as too little.
So I'd say yes to giving vit supplement to Whisper whilst she's nursing, and for any health problems like luna-tic's balding hammy, but I wouldn't give vit supplements for no reason.
