Default Antibiotics

Hi everyone i'm hoping someone can give me some advice concerning antibiotics. Today I took my Russian dwarf Fluff to the vets as he has started bleeding from his backside. The vet prescribed both baytril and septrin antibiotics with the baytril to be administered twice daily and the septrin once. With previous hamsters I have only been given one type of antibiotic at a time and so I was wondering if I need to take any extra precautions when giving two different ones? I am currently giving him Pro-C probiotic bought from pets at home in his water.
Thankyou

To be honest Jomo, you should ring your vet and ask them what the time should be between doses. Baytril is normally split into two (twice a day doses) but I`ve never heard of two different drugs being given at the same time. Antibiotics can cancel each other out or affect their mechanism of action, but I would guess your vet is trying to hit hard whatever is causing your hamster to pass blood from his rectum.

What age is Fluff and is he passing blood in his poo or just passing red blood on it`s own? I wish you well with his treatment. Baytril is broad spectrum and Septrin is a defferent antibiotic, so it could be that both are there to try and clear up whatever is going on.

I wonder too if the ProC stuff should be stopped until Fluff has finished his treatment as bacteria (good and bad) will be killed off while using these drugs, so the ProC won`t be having any effect and could actually conflict with the drugs as some vitamins and minerals can clash with antibiotics, so you could ask your vet about that also. I could be wrong.

I was told not to give Pro C at the same as anti biotics. I hope Fluff gets better soon.

Pro C is great to help line the tummys. Its really good for Guinea Pigs and Rabbits when they are on antibiotics. I have never heard it being given to hammys when they are on them. I didnt use any pro c with Sookie. I also put a drop of the antibiotic in the water as it was such a stress for her to try and give her it by a syringe x
