Default My hamster had a stroke?

I have a 2 and half year old syrian called harvey and last nigh he was dragging his leg's about i gave him water and a friend of mine trimmed his teeth as previously he'd started biting the bar's so thought maybe he's not eating or something, I gave him some calpol and he been in his house since sleeping but he is still dragging leg's tho they work a little bit he going in circle's and has a head tilt is floppy and get's stuck like put's his head down and cant lift it for a miniute and is sleeping in silly place's not his house which he love's. He is pouching food and trying to take it to his stash and drinking water but i think that's it for him poor little man he soo friendly too but he looks spastic really i have give him a little more calpol tonight and am getting to the vet's tomorrow but i don't think he guna make it, I hate taking them in for this as its like taking them to their executioner last time i roared. I don't think he is in any pain but i do think there is brain damage just thought the calpol will keep him drowsy so he sleep's tonight , i was going to put him in a smaller cage or pet carrier but don't want to stress him out.

Oh no, poor Harvey! It might just be his time, as 2 and a half years old is such a grand old age. Sorry I can't give any more help, hope the vets goes well tomorrow.

Can you give human meds such as calpol to hamsters? I've never heard of that happening before.

I dont know what is wrong with him but please do not give calpol to your hamster! It is made for humans and I am not sure it is safe for hams.
I would take him to the vets, I hope he is better soon!

Well i have guinea pig's and since most thing's are tested on them before we get it i didnt think it would do any harm plus the person i got my piggies off is a breeder of guinea's and hamsters and she is really amazing and has saved me a fortune in vet bill's with over the counter human drug's for pig's i pretty much do what im told when it come's to medical she really care's about all her animal's and has never gave bad advice before obviously rescue before breeding i think but she's not one of "those" breeder's she also said if suffering then vet's straight away no question but it just so much money when it's often only a few pound's at a chemist. Harvey is lovely he used to bite a bit but soon come round and i didnt hold hamster's at all before stevie (who we thought was evie for 2 years and was put down 3months ago) and harvey then we got ariel from a rescue and she died 3months later heart attack i think and now poor harv we have two dwarf russian or hybrid hammie's too

I would and have give it to my guinea pig's it has to be sugar free tho and not alot at all. Most of what the breeder does is on the advice of the vet (tho i cant say 100%that was) she has a very close relationship with our local vet's and i do trust her.
