Re: Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)
Thank you. xxx
I think it is the same, if not similar. I know cats and dogs get it too but for these animals it can be cured. There is no cure yet for hamsters.

Re: Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)
Humans can also get Cushings however that is due to a hormone problem and causes stunted growth, weight gain and could lead to heart attacks. It's a broad name for a different varitations. (Thank you, House)

I think the cause is always the same though, whether it's human or animal.
It seems to be a tumour on the Pituitary Gland and increase in Cortisol levels from what I've read.

Re: Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)
I think that's what causes it. XD I know they had to do surgery.
It's strange how the same problem can cause different effects in animals.

Re: Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)
Thank you so much! I'm almost positive this is what my hamster originally contracted. He's a black bear, so his fur started turning white but everyone kept saying he was just old. His symptoms match everything you've posted and the pictures were very helpful too. Thank you again!

Re: Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)
Just wondering...Olive's a sable and she has an almost entirely cream bottom....if this is an aging thing was I misinformed about her age when I got her? She should be 5/6 months now.

No, its not unusually for the bottom to turn cream on a sable, even at that age Cream and sable are similar genetics.
My porridge was also very cream, infact barely sable by the age of 1 and a half x

Re: Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)
Thanks =) I've been wondering about it for a while...'cus she has that much 'ticking' (I think thats the right word for light flecks) and a lot of white on her belly that she doesn't look all that sable :P The genetics makes sense....she had two REC brothers.

My old girl Daisy was also practically beige - and she was sable banded. Darcey is starting to get lighter round the bum too
