Exclamation Weird Question...

Hey everyone,

I have a strange question, my little Panda bear has started to grow a strange bumm.... its getting long triangleish and lays under him when he sits.

Hes about six or seven months old.

Is this normal??
Why is his bum so strange?

Thanks everyone!

Is he a Syrian?

If he is then it sounds like his testicles. Definately normal

EDIT: By Panda Bear I assume you mean a Black Banded Syrian? Panda bear is just a nickname some places use to get higher prices for their stock

A teddy bear if a Syrian yes, its a nick name given to black banded hamsters.

I suggest you do some research... If you know so little and already own one you really need to do it sharpish too. I personally spent a few months researching hamsters before purchasing one and I still have questions.

Yes its just his man bits developing - this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Some males can be quite well endowed and with have quite a pointy shape to their 'bottom'

As they mature the testicles do get larger Klaub and sometimes they even sit on them like a cushion!
They are quite mobile and sometimes protrude like a little peanut sticking through the skin. When the hamster is warm they stick out further from the body but when it is cold they can retract fully inside the body.
Mature males of certain colours get more pigment in the skin in that area too.
Females have a rounded, blunt back end and males have a more elongated, tapered back end.
Thinks to watch for which could indicate problems for a male are sudden swelling of the testicles, bruising or blood staining under the skin, bleeding or skin lumps and see the vet if anything changes drastically or suddenly.

Different countries do give differnet names to hamsters - a bit like nicknames. Teddy bear is often given to long haired syrians and panda bear to the black and white varieties. Some, but not all, will charge higher prices for the different types. They are no more difficult to breed really but I guess is is about supply and demand too.
