Sorry to bring up this thread agin, but I discovered my Chip had a very similar bruising to his left eye this morning. Just got home and it still looks pretty bad. Any advice on how to help him heal? Chip is my friendliest hamster and it's upsetting to see him in such a state. He definitely hasn't been fighting with his brother so it looks like its either self inflicted or some sort of an infection.
Also, can anyone recommend a decent vet in West London?

Is his eye bruised or is the red like... gunky stuff?
If it is then you can wipe it gently with a cotton bud dipped in cooled boiled water, but I would take him to a vets just to be safe anyway!
