hope your hamster is okay and vet trip goes well. you done right thing removing them to your boyfriends house. your hammy be frantic with his intruder.. change clean and new house. please keep us posted.

i must admit i agree with the snap shut traps too although a few years ago we had a mouse take the trap away with them 3 years later we found the trap when getting work done and didnt have a clue how it got there. thankfully not had any more intruders in our home. :::shivers at the thought::: good luck sorting the problem may it be humane or otherwise.

I know this is not really funny but my cat came up the drive one day with a mouse actually in a trap. It was dead but it was a poor show for a cat having to bring home mice in traps
We had two cats and still got mice!

heya,

I'm so sorry to hear about the trouble your having with the mice, i hope that your hammie hasn't got anything.

I dunno what I can really add to this conversation except maybe if you want to use non-humane traps thats cool and you shouldn't feel guilty about it mice problems are difficult to get rid of and whatever you have to do you have to do.

If your worried about your hammies escaping then whatever you have to do to keep them safe.

Everyone has told you all the sufficient information but just to be safe, i would move the affected Hamster to a different room completely. As had been said, Tyzzers disease Can spread like wildfire. I hope you and all the Hams become safe and well xxxx

I wont argue here whether humane or otherwise traps are best as I havn't had direct experience in my own home with these. I did work in a kennels and cattery where rats were a big problem though.
Please be very careful with using poison! It is very difficult to make sure any other pets you may have don't get hold of it. It is always meant to be disposed of is specific ways detailed on the packaging to avoid harm to wildlife, but whether your intended target takes it or any other animal - the suffering is great and the death isn't pleasant or quick for you or the animal concerned.

Hope you hammie is okay

I used the humane traps and drove the mice out to outlying wilderness / fallow farmland areas. They were probably eaten but I feel that it's better to give them a fair shot and provide an owl with a meal. Also, I'd keep them in a terrarium until I had a fair number of them and they are VERY entertaining to watch. They can JUMP!

Well I have no opinion on whether it should be humane or snap trap or poison, because none of them worked for me at all... *grr* I have smart mice in my flat.

I would most definitely move the hamsters to a room without mice though, as a priority. I know my hamster gets pretty freaked out when she can *smell* the mice (let alone see them or have them in the same cage! :O). She would all of a sudden freeze and then dart into the tube and not come out for a while.

I have been struggling with a mouse problem as well. Just the other day I saw one climb up the wall! They can get anywhere! Stupid thing crawled into my purse and I zipped it quick and dumped him into the snake cage. Free meal for Floyd! They are so gross. Cute, but gross. I say get a snap trap and do away with em.
