Okay..it's not a laughing matter about that..and about the schools..you want the babies to be in good cages? Small children..would immediately want those eye-candy cages..just consider that.

why don't you mention to people first BEFORE you breed the hamsters and set up homes. I know many breeders have waiting lists for hamsters. This way you are not landed with potentially 12 hammies...thats alot of cages to clean x

If you are scared the babies won't sell or you cannot keep them all you really should not breed them. I'm sorry mango but I feel very strongly about this.
Do you have your parent's permission and support?
Do you know how expensive it is to raise a litter? Honestly, they are ravenous and eat like you wouldn't believe. You are shovelling in food 3 times a day plus you need to give extras like babyfood, small seeds, porridge, lactol kitten milk. That is before all the bedding / substrate etc you need. They pee and the cages needs cleaning quite a lot. When you separate there are extra toys, bottles, bowls, wheels etc to buy...the list is endless. They all need lots of your time for the cleaning and most importantly their taming.
There is no money to be made in hamsters. You do it for the love of them and the improvement of the lines in terms of health, longevity, temperament and the species as a whole.
We never advertise our hamsters except to mention them on our site and people find us there. We could home a litter over and over but we only breed very few babies.

Make a list now then mango and keep the interested people well informed on progress. People often pull out last minute so best have plenty in reserve. Make sure you take their e mail and send pics as soon as the babies are furry and out and about.
Don't try and take pics when they are tiny though as it is not worth the risk with a first time mum.
