Re: DIY Sandbaths
Yep, you can use chinchilla sand (not dust - dust is very dangerous for hammies) from pet shops. Charlie Chinchilla is what most ppl use, it comes in a buley/grey carton. But childrens play sand is also fine to use too and a lot cheaper. I got mine from Tesco, but you can get it from Argos and garden centers too.

Re: DIY Sandbaths
my hamster wont use his sandbath for the right reasons. He will go straight to it and poos in it then gets back out. Is this normal or is there a sort of routine that you can introduce to make him use it?

Re: DIY Sandbaths
I suppose not all hams will dig, and syrians don't really feel the need to dust bath.
A lot of hamsters use it as a toilet

Re: DIY Sandbaths
my Chinese hamsters pee in theirs so i have to change it frequently
When i put the sand in their the are in there as soon as they can get around my hands and get their fuzzy little faces in it XD i guess its a matter of preference but mine seem to really enjoy it, they even sometimes sleep in it
As for containers how about a old jar on its side with chin sand in the bottom? i use a solid plastic dish for mine, but they aren't really chewers and don't gnaw on it.

Re: DIY Sandbaths
I have brought some stuff called Critter Bath Powder from the Range. Just been reading the other posts and just wondered if this is ok?? My dwarf doesn't seem bothered by it at the mo!

Oh no!!! I'll take it out! Thanks. X
It does say suitable for hamsters on the box but I'd rather be safe than sorry!
