Default See how he runs

Adding a digital counter to my wheel. Amazon sells them for $15 US.

Amazon.com

It will count revolutions that I will then convert into feet by multiplying against the inside circumference of the wheel.

I'm interested is seeing just how far he runs in a given evening. Will average it out over a week or so.

Any guesses on how far that may be?

Oh fab! I'm looking forward to hear the result.
Would also be interested in the individual counts. How many revolutions in one night and then the number converted into the distance. You are adding a whole new dimension by diverting from crickets.

I said I would not update this thread unless my hamster had beat his own record.

Well, early this morning, he did.

15.57 miles in one night.

27,409 on the wheel counter X 3 feet revolution = 82,227 feet divided by 5280' (in one mile) = 15.57 miles

Also noticed he has really taken to running through his 12 feet of 3" plastic tubing I set up for him. Does it many times each night.

Glad he seems happy and healthy

Has he given you any kind of indication yet that he wants out of cage time?

You mean by clawing or biting the screen?

There has been none of that. He spends all his waking time scampering around, using the wheel, using the sand box, running up the tubing and eating.

I have seen no indication he wants out.

Not all hamsters want out of cage time. Some prefer their own company.
Yes, he'd let you know by clawing or biting the mesh.

How useful. You can hook up your domestic electricity supply to the wheel and benefit from your hamster's energetic efforts. I think they spin as fast as fast/slow they want.
