Default Fostering

I'm going to be taking on my first foster ham this week - a possibly pregnant female from a friend who's been landed with a litter that wasn't seperated - and only 1 boy in it

The plan is to rehome this hamster, and any babies that she might drop on us.

If anyone has any tips on looking after fosters, ie how *not* to get attached to them!! Let me know!

Sorry Em it's not possible not to get attached but I'd adopt the 'love them as much as I can approach', but always know the parting will be sweet sorrow but they will get the individual attention of their new owner in their forever home.

PS How is Toby?

Toby is doing great less and less scaredy-cat all the time, and putting on weight fine. I'm going to change his cage though - as he's still in the taming stage the Cambridge just doesn't have enough easy access, Babyboos was right! So he can go back in the Laura until he learns that being caught for playtime isn't a bad thing! Once he's out he's fine 90% of the time now, but the catching is becoming a sticking point.

He does have a bald patch either side of his nose - was hoping they'd go with better diet etc, but not so far. I don't think he sticks his nose through bars - at least never see him doing that. But he's not itchy at all, just going to keep an eye on it I think.

I'm not sure at the moment about rehoming this girl!!! If she doesnt have babies and it's just her......I just know me she'll end up staying! I wasn't supposed to up my numbers until July. Ah well.

Oh well what's a few months

There is no way apart from to find them great homes where you know they will make a difference and get the love and care you would give them yourself.

Good luck with mum and any babies if they come

Souffle is right, it really isn't possible to not get attached! Good luck with the babies if they come!
