Thank you, and to all the people who report their mistakes in public. Not only is it a reminder; it helps the rest of us feel less stupid about our own.

Oh we all make mistakes! I made a lot in the early days. And still learning - although I'm quite safety conscious about heights etc.

Has anyone seen these? I decided to get one. Cardboard house. Now ok you could make a cardboard house! But they look a bit different.

I am finding it quite hard to find good hamster accessories at the moment. Thankfully I have plenty already, but was looking for the odd extra thing and so much is unavailable. I'll report back if it's any good or if it's been a waste of £6.99.

[QUOTE=Serendipity7000;954980

I am regretting getting rid of my Barney cage now! The narrow bars would have been ideal for a Robo. Nobody ever imagined Barney and Alexander cages would disappear![/QUOTE]

You would soon get frustrated with the Barney's small doors.

If you don't have the right tool to make holes in the bridges to start off the hooks, you could try a cork screw.

Yes you’re right I would get frustrated with the small doors! Corkscrew is a good idea. I just decided to use the ladder instead .

Getting a bit concerned that I don’t have enough to fill the cage! We’ll see. I ended up buying two or three extra things - more money! But they will need to be added later as they’ll need a week in the freezer.

It’s reminding me of setting up the plaza for Pickle this time last year - and I think I didn’t wait the full week for some things on the freezer then - hemp mats eg and cork log. Maybe that’s why I had the moth outbreak. But it’s usually good so probably from treat sticks I forgot to freeze or something.

Currently I have two smaller shelves I’d like to use but lost the screws for them - ugh. No idea how. They are thin shelves that need specific bolt type screws to fit in a socket. So given up on those as I wasted far too much time trying to find screws!

Don't you have a B&Q near you? You should be able to get the screws there.

Hmm, i've cleaned two corner shelves recently and put the screws somewhere in a safe place....but where.....

Yes but we’re still not going to shops . Semi shielding. It’s impossible trying to identify them online! OH was talking about making wood shelf supports to glue underneath them and screw into the supports. That could take him a long time lol - diy rarely gets finished here as he’s always busy. Unless I do it. I think that will have to be for another time - a future project. I probably have enough shelves without them - have quite a few small ones. I just hate the idea of spending money on more shelves! Ranch house cages were very reasonable but since the pandemic they sell only a very limited range. I am lucky I have the one big lovely shelf from then that we cut to fit the plaza exactly.

LONG wait for this Robo! Originally it was supposed to be between Sunday and Wednesday this week. I hadn't heard anything for a while so messaged them and someone replied saying the branch in my area had had a bit of an emergency so would be in touch soon. I messaged again to see which day it was likely to be this week and they said - still organising that - probably next Sunday!

That may work out better for me anyway as I had planned to get the cage all finalised this week-end just gone and loads of family things got dropped on me out of the blue so it would have been a rushed thing tomorrow. I am fiddling about with the house on legs trying to get it right and need uninterrupted time! And also to have the cage on the floor (hard to screw things to the back of the plaza without easy access to all sides at floor level).

Anyway it's looking now like I will easily fill it (in fact having difficulty getting things to fit! As the labyrinth house at one end and the shelf at the other end, and the longer ladder doesn't leave a huge amount of open floor space to fit anything else.

And had some plastikote issues. I bought two new pots of clear plastikote and it seemed a bit strange this time - sort of bubbly when painted on and didn't go on that well. Anyway after it had dried, the house and wheel were incredibly rough! And left sort of sharp bits - so I've had to sand them all over! A shame when they were lovely smooth wood to start with. I have never had this with plastikote before - maybe an old batch or something. The shelf was already plastikoted and that's fine and smooth.

So house and wood wheel all nice and smooth now - no idea if the plastikote will actually waterproof them now though but hey ho.

Also need to start thinking about names. He has a given name from the rescue but I think I'd like us to have a personal one for him as not sure about his given name - which is perfectly fine but not quite us.

So robo name suggestions?!

Put the Plaza on a Dolly Trolley. Makes life so much easier.
B&Q does one for £17. You should be able to get one online if you're still keeping out of the shops.

This wait would drive me crazy because i'm rubbish at waiting. Is the rescue far away? Just wondering if they could put him in a taxi.

As for names. Something to go with Pickle like Chutney perhaps?

Nice idea. Stepson doesn’t like food names though (somehow we didn’t think food when Pickle was chosen - more the expression). Shame it isn’t a girl Robo then it could be Lily (Picallily lol).

Yes the wait is driving me a bit mad. Hamster sitting there needing a home. On the other hand I have been very delayed getting the cage sorted and it’ll save me having to fudge it at the last minute and adjust later.

It’s only 60 miles away (too far for a taxi) but will wait till Sunday now.

Plaza on the floor for adjusting is fine - couldn’t leave it there as it’s stepson’s room. He’s away till Friday after tomorrow so I’ll put it back on the floor to finish off. Great idea about the trolley though!
