Default Pichu and his new digs! *pictures*!!

I changed Pichu's cage around today, and I was trying to think of something new and exciting for his new cage. I didnï¿œt have any look out towers so I simply made one from an old plastic container. Worked out pretty good! he's not sleeping in it yet, but he loved climbing in the tubes!

Here is how I have it set up for him, his wheel is a bit messy.. still gotta clean it.

Pichu getting ready to climb the tube! OMG I cant handle the cute factor *squeals*

Pichu in his tower (with the lid off heh) hes looking up at me, probably wondering what the big black camera is :P

Pichu in his little wooden house *Hey.. cant you see im trying to sleep!*

That is outrageously cute!

I cleaned Gypsy Bean's cage out today and dropped the plastic base on the floor, snapping a bit off luckily it still holds together fine with no holes or sharp bits, but I was wondering if I was going to have to shell out for a new home!

I can't wait til I start working again in the summer - I'm going to buy so many tubes and stuff for her cage, it's just going to be huge

He sure has a great, roomy apartment there and I bet he just loves those tubes!

Thanks Mimosaurus!

Tubes can be great for dwarf hamsters.. especially for exercise.. all that climbing! and its certainly fun to create places for them to run and hide in. I always had lots of fun with tubes. I wouldn’t use them for a syrian hamster though, unless I could find something more spacious and suitable. But I have a feeling Pichu will be having a big adventure tonight when he wakes up!

That is a GREAT idea! I love that you've used a plastic container as part of the addition. Very clever. I use the larger plastic containers like that as houses for my hammies. I turn them upside down and cut a door into them and put airholes in the top. They're rectangular and so much bigger and roomier than the igloo type coveys that you can buy (cheaper too). My guys love them. And if they get a little worn, I just put them in recycling and make a new one. I'll post pics in a bit.

I think I'm going to borrow your idea for my dwarfies. I have them in a large sterilite plastic bin. But I have tons of leftover tubes from when I used crittertrail cages. I like the idea of still giving them the tubes to run through - they so love them.

By the way, what did you use to cut the hole in the container...a dremel or maybe a stanley knife?

I used scissors believe it or not! It was a cheap store bought container so the plastic was very thin. I cut the hole just a bit smaller then the opening of the tube face.. then I put one of those plastic clip things (that attach the tubes together) on the end to make it more secure and so the Robo couldn’t get at the plastic and chew. The container itself is small about 3.5 by 4.5 inches, just the right size for maybe on cupcake.

That looks great - I only recently got 2 robos so please excuse my ignorance - do they manage vertical tubes like that?- I've read they like to climb - I may need to re-arrange my layout! - want to keep the little guys happy

I love my Robo! I originally had two but one died *frown* The tubes I have are made for dwarf hamsters and small mice. They have ridging on the inside for them to grasp onto. Make sure your tubes aren’t design for Syrians.. (but that case they are usually to small anyway) Just make sure they are narrow enough for them to climb up and support their weight on either side.
