Default A celebration of lockdown hamsters!

Hello everybody! I'm feeling quite sentimental and mushy this evening, I wanted to write this thread to celebrate and say thank you to our sweet furry friends for what they do for us, even though they 100% don't realise and probably don't care as long as they get food and playtime!

I live in the UK, specifically central London. We've been in lockdown since mid-December. My two housemates went north to stay with their families around 2 months ago (I spent my birthday by myself - that was a bit depressing!) I went to my parents house for about a week over Christmas, but other than that I've been living alone and working from home ever since.

Alone, apart from my adorable, mental, noisy, infuriating not-so-little Syrian lady Peggy. I think without another soul sharing my living space I would have lost my mind. Having another living creature to care for and talk to (we all do it, don't lie!) I feel has had a positive effect on me in ways I don't think I'll ever fully understand.

Here's a short video of Peggy having a Valentine's treat! happy valentine's from Peggy - YouTube

I think hamsters are perfect little pets, apart from occasionally waking us up in the middle of the night that is, but unfortunately they're never with us for as long as we would like. But little miss Peggy will always have a big place in my heart for keeping me sane through 2020, the year that most of us would probably rather forget.

OMG 100% I just said to my mum this afternoon that I think the hamsters stop me from going completely insane - my life is pretty much like lockdown anyway, housebound with chronic illness and limited energy to talk to people etc, the only thing that has changed for me is less help in the home. But thank goodness for my hamsters.

Hi, I actually got a hamster during lockdown, first one from the childhood.
They are nocturnal creatures, but watching and playing with them is a good fun. Especially in the times like this, when it is hard to plan anything and many are unable to see friends and family as often they used to.
Hope, that things will slowly get back to "normal", as much as they can.

I like having a hamster in the house because then it doesn't feel like I live alone. He's less effort to talk to than humans because he doesn't expect a sensible conversation

Exactly this! Peggy will listen to me moaning without telling me to shut up! As long as I give her a treat, that is.
