Good hamster care in the media
This week's episode of The Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry (Radio 4 and a podcast version) was about seeing how many hamsters running on their wheels would be needed to power London (spoiler: it's a lot). Having established how many hamsters it would require, they then looked at how much space they would take up. They considered one hamster to take up the space of... a Hamster Heaven! Someone on the show did their research.
I am less sure about their estimate that hamsters were awake for 16 hours of the day. I know sometimes they can be quiet or not visible, but that seems like a lot.
(Just in case anyone is worried, the whole thing was tongue-in-cheek and they did also discuss whether horses, cheetahs or humans would be any better at generating electricity by running in wheels)

Re: Good hamster care in the media
I am impressed. Refreshing to hear that a hamster needs the space of Hamster Heaven.
I wonder if the producer is a member here.......
