unpopular hamster opinions?
I wanted to know what unpopular opinions everyone has about hamsters and hamster ownership!
to start, i personally don’t like wire cages in general, even if they’re big enough because the option to bar chew is always there unless you add cardboard which then you wouldn’t be able to see the hammy :/

Re: unpopular hamster opinions?
There are usually pros & cons to everything so it’s often not a simple like or dislike, the possibility of bar chewing will exist but with adequate cage size & plenty of enrichment isn’t usually a problem, the pros, I love barred cages for the interaction, ventilation & the ability to add lots of ledges, shelves, hanging items & other things which can add lots more potential enrichment, plus cages with large front doors make access to the cage easy & with new hams a lot less scary than approaching from above as you do with tank style cages.

Re: unpopular hamster opinions?
this wasn’t supposed to be a pros and cons of bar cages! i meant, share your own opinions about other things that have to do with owning hamsters.

And they have to be unpopular, yes?
So, would you consider my opinion that as big a cage as possible doesn't suit every hamster and that some hamsters do better in a smaller cage as meeting the criteria of being classed unpolular?

Re: unpopular hamster opinions?
Threads like this will always invite discussion My opinion that is probably unpopular is that hamsters are not good child pets! I think rats are better. But like others, there are two sides to everything

Re: unpopular hamster opinions?
Yes, I think threads like this could lead to heated exchanges because you are bound to upset people that have the differing opinions.
Such as, I personally don't agree with breeding hamsters, keeping animals in cages or that hamsters should ever have been domesticated/kept as pets. However, I don't wish to get into any arguments with anyone over this so if anyone disagrees that's fine, that's their opinion, these are mine.
