Oreo leaves, Bean stays

My Campbell's dwarf, Oreo, popped off to hammy heaven last week. My friend says she imagines his earthly remains lying in state, wearing a helmet and with a tiny sword across his chest, on a small viking ship set afire and launched into the sunset. His "launch" was rather more pedestrian, but it's a nice image.

Anyway, he managed to make it 2 1/3 years.

In the past few weeks, he slept more, and didn't feel like rolling in his sandbox. The fur on his back got so greasy, that I finally poured a little sand on him, which helped a lot and didn't seem to bother him. (Nothing much bothered him when he was eating.) He took to sleeping in more exposed places, and I got the pic below of him curled up with his feet in the air.

I miss him because he was often up during the day. My Syrian, Bean, is only up briefly first thing in the morning, when I let him out to run around my flat. Sometimes we go for a walk around the condo hallway. (Usually no one's around, tho we once startled a visiting workman.) So I have Bean's company only once every 24 hours.

At some point, I might get gerbils. Meanwhile, Bean and I will soldier on.

I am so sorry to hear that Oreo has gone to hammy heaven. They leave such a big hole when they leave us. Hams are such characters and become a huge part of our lives. The picture of him sleeping is so sweet x
