I don't think there's a minimum as long as there's sufficient ventilation but maximum bar spacing i'd say 1cm/0.5in.

You say robos as in plural. Are you planning on getting more cages or keep more than one robo in one cage?

I've just adopted a robo who ended up in an adoption tank because misinformed people bought two and put them in the same enclosure. They started fighting which is apparently fairly common and had to be separated.

I thought 1cm was thought too big for Robos, don't people recommend 7mm bar spacing?

1 cm/10 mm has been used in the US for a while now with pretty much any hamster species to my knowledge. If you had the option of a decent cage with 7 mm bar spacing that would work too.

The Savic Mickey 2 XL has 6.5 mm bar spacing and I believe the US equivalent Marchioro Kevin 82 should have the same bar spacing, but I wouldn't try to go any smaller - not that you'd likely find anything with smaller spacing!

ETA 1/2 inch spacing would be 1.27 cm(12.7 mm) actually which is typically used in the US for all hamster species.

It definitely isn't recommended to house any hamster species together. They are very territorial animals regardless of species and every species can and often will fight to the point of severe injury or death, and ultimately it just stresses them out and is very unfair to them.

You can but i wouldn't unless you have a second cage on standby because they can fall out at any time.

In my opinion, its just not worth the risk.

Hamsters are solitary, territorial animals who are willing and capable to fight to the death to defend their territory.

It's not impossible though. There is the odd pair of dwarfs who will happily live together their whole lives but the majority doesn't.

I volunteer for a hamster rescue and the lady who runs it knows of one single pair who stayed together but she also knows of quite a few hamsters who were so badly injured in a sibling fight that they had to be put down because their owners believed the pet shops and backstreet "breeders" stating that they can to live together.

1 cm is usually ok for robos, a baby may be able to squeeze through that but not the age they normally are when either sold by pet shops or breeders.

I wouldn’t keep two of any species together, all hams are solitary really & once mature it’s very rare for a pair not to need separating.

I have had roborovskis for a few years now and find that they do best on their own. 2 sisters fell out and a group of 3 unrelated robos fell out.

I have always kept mine in 1cm bar spaced cages with no problems.

Good luck. Roborovskis are brilliant!
