Question Question about bamboo chew sticks

Hi folks,

I thought I'd register here and get advice rather than searching Google for random conflicting advice from various websites.

I have a female Syrian and I'm currently trying to find her the right things to gnaw to keep her teeth in good shape.

I bought a pack of apple sticks, bamboo sticks and timothy hay sticks. She seems to like the apple sticks, not too fussed on the timothy sticks but she goes mad for the bamboo.

My concern with the bamboo is after watching her for just a few seconds it seems to tear off in splinters and shards and I'm petrified she's going to get them stuck in her throat. Everywhere I read says they're fine but those sharp shards look awfully dangerous to me.

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks,
Ant.

As far as I know bamboo is safe but it isn’t something I’ve tried with mine & to be honest I think I’d be a bit concerned as well, have you tried her with whimzee dog chews, the toothbrush ones, most hams go crazy for them & there would be no safety concerns if she liked those.

That's interesting, ive often seen them in P@H but never got around to getting them. are you sure its shards and not her peeling of the bark? If it is shards id remove them as hamster pouch things and wouldn't take much to pierce through the cheek or as you mention her throat. Also hamsters grind their teeth together which helps keep them short. Cardboard boxes and tube are good as well as seagrass and wood.

(My rats go nuts over the apple sticks too)
