Default Kobe the Syrian

Hi all,

As some know I adopted a wee black Syrian hamster last thursday.

A lady living locally had bought him as a lockdown companion but found that now she was back at work full time, she didn't feel like she had the time to dedicate to him.

She has named him Spike but he has been re-named Kobe

His previous owner said he is very shy and has not been tamed. She said she spent approximately 10 minutes with him every 3 days (!)

He's approximately 4 months old.

So far I have completely left him to get used to his new, much larger enclosure.

He hasn't been up much - from what I can tell throughout the night, he has been getting up at about 11.30pm and going to bed at maybe 3 or 4am.
So I haven't had much of a chance to even sit and observe him.

He's currently set up his nest in a long tube at the back of his cage which isn't ideal but I have no intentions of disturbing it.

I can also see evidence that he's been enjoying his large sand bath. I think it's the first time he's had one

Here are the only couple of photos i've manage to capture so far.

What a cutie, the contrast of his pink nose against the dark fur is adorable.
I know you said you have no intention of disturbing it but you may want to remove the tube as it is not going to be easy to clean if he is peeing in there.

Thank you Luna

Yes I know what you mean, but I have seen signs of him using his sand bath to wee in.
I may well have to reconsider the tube as a nest spot if he doesn't naturally relocate soon.

(it's the long purple one that he is next to in the first picture by the way)

He is so cute, especially in that third picture.

I can see why his previous owner felt she couldn't look after him if she only had time for spending 10 minutes every three days with him in lockdown!

I do like his new name, lovely to see some more photos of him, he does look curious about his new home & so sweet peeking out from various places, such a huge change for him & lots to get used to after so little interaction with his previous owner but I’m sure he’ll soon gain confidence & start to come out more.

Thanks so much Coco & Cypher.
I've stayed up late to catch site of him, and managed to snap a slightly fluffy portrait
