So I've stopped doing it with him and just leave him to enjoy the darkness!

Thanks Serendipity. You've totally caught me out!
I have been occasionally lifting the roof of his house to check on him and hand feed him before I go to bed. I'd rather not do this but he gets up very late into the night, I don't think I'd see him at all if I didn't.
He also runs under the bridge outside his house and I coax him out with some food but as you can see from the spaghetti video, he's still very scared and doesn't want to come out far.
I'm trying to strike a balance between respecting his space and slowly challenging him so we make some progress. Perhaps I'm still rushing it..

Thank you I drew round a coin for the semi circles around the edge and the swirly inside was just leftover paint that I painted on while the wheel was spinning.

I imagine that would be difficult seeing as he is such a shy boy

Re: Kobe the Syrian
Thanks Cypher and Savannagh
He is a total cutie isn't he?
I'm starting to think his original name SPIKE actually does suit him quite well as he seems to perpetually have bed head!
His other nicknames so far are SQUIFF and SHORTBREAD SCRUFFPANTS

Re: Kobe the Syrian
Oh, he is beautiful! <3 All hamsters are gorgeous, but I can't help but feel like there's just something a little extra-special about black hamsters. So handsome! I'm glad his previous owner was resposible enough to realise he needed a home that could spend more time with him and that he came to you.

I too have recently got a new hamster friend and have exactly the same problem as you - he comes out so late, I barely see him at all! We started off well and made good progress, but now he's turned into a hermit. I've checked up on him a couple of times because I worry whether he's okay and just want to make sure he's safe and well, but obviously he doesn't much appreciate being disturbed. It's a real dilemma!

Re: Kobe the Syrian
Aw thank you Space Hamster
Nice to hear from someone who's at a similar stage of taming/bonding as me.
What's your hamster look like? Have you managed to catch a picture yet?
Look forward to hearing more about your journey too

Thanks Cotton. It's a large Trixie wheel that I painted with plasticote paint.
