Yes, one of the benefits of being startled and freezing!

I managed to remove his purple tube nest last night while he was up and about. I emptied it's contents (and added a small limp of cheese ) to the big yellow house in the hopes he would take to setting up on there.

He was not at all happy when he realised I had removed it! I felt terrible as he frantically searched for it..

But I woke up in the night to watch him at about 3.30am and he gathered up all good he could find in his pouches and headed for the big yellow house

Just hope he forgives me!

I've only just caught up with this thread.

Kobe is absolutely adorable! What a photogenic hamster.
He's lucky that you found him and gave him this fab new home with his own proper bath tub!

Lovely illustration of him as well. Looking forward to see more of this little beauty.

I feel like this is going to be a long, challenging road ahead with taming Kobe

I know it's early days so hopefully things with progress but so far, he seems to have about a 4 hour waking period (approx midnight - 4am) and is very skittish when he sees/hears me.

He has let me hold food out in front of him, which he's given a sniff but either not fancied or was too scared to take it from me.

I'm yet to touch him at all

Trying not to get disheartened (I picked him up a week ago tomorrow) but struggling to see how I'll take next steps with him when he's waking day is so ruddy short !

Glad to hear he’s moved into the house . He just needs some settling in time to gain confidence. Hard I know! He’ll probably need a few days now to feel at home in the house but might get a bit more confident after that. He looks like he’s enjoying exploring the cage. He probably nested in the tube because it was under the shelf. Better it’s out. They make good out of cage toys and I use one if those (closed up) for getting Pickle in and out of his cage.

I wouldn’t worry too much, a week isn’t long & being a rescue I think it’s bound to take a bit longer for him to adjust, sounds like he’s making some progress, slow & steady!

Most people don't have lovely photos like you already have taken in the first week of arrival.

Kobe needs time to settle in and get familiar with his new home and you need to stock up on patience, lol.

When we got Moo (1 year old rescue) he was supposed to be already tamed and probably was but needed to get used to us. I gave him the full two weeks before attempting to get him out . He seemed good then and quite happy but a bit skitty about being handled for a while.

Thank you Serendipity, Cypher and Ria P ! You're all completely right and I really appreciate the reassurance.

I'm so eager to get to know him but, for now, I'm going to back right off
