Oh he is gorgeous! Such a lovely baby hamster - and he looks happy. I agree not to move anything just yet so you don't freak him out. I can see you have a cardboard house in there with two entrances? What you could do is add a bendy bridge over one of the entrances and put something over the other entrance - that makes it darker inside and the tunnel entrance tempts them in there. And put a smelly treat inside the house (eg cheese).

I find that tempts them to move in. Adding something extra is usually accepted ok as long as nothing already there is disturbed and you do it when he's asleep eg. Quietly! Also put a pile of toilet paper nesting material next to the house.

He might decide to move in there. They tend to go for the biggest, darkest place to build a nest. The tunnel hoiuse entrance helps

Thank you Luna, Cypher and Serendipity. He is a sweetie isn't he?

Re: housing - I've attached some pictures to show more of his enclosure set up ( constructive feedback very welcome!)

Hoping you can see the large yellow house with the wooden bridge as a entrance tunnel. My hope was that he would nest in there but I'm not sure he's even ventured all the way in there yet !

He is ever so timid. He also doesn't seem to be food orientated (although it's early days yet)

I'm going to give the cheese bait a go though

It looks fab, love, love, love the sand bath
The only thing I would do is remove those hooks/bells off the mini wooden platform thing on the left (that's what I did with mine) I was scared little paws could get stuck

Maybe just something to fill that open space in the middle, whether another tunnel or some homemade boredom breakers with toilet roll tubes or just move some of the existing stuff into that space.

Lucky little Kobe

Thanks Luna. He seems to love the sand bath too!

Yes, I agree about the bells. Will take them off.
I've never known hamsters to be interested in bells? Is it a common misconception? Or are they meant to be suitable for other small pets that might benefit from bells? I've never got it.

And yes, will definitely be adding extra homemade bits and bobs when he's a bit more settled.

It does look lovely, I agree about the bells, I had one of those years ago as a playpen toy & my ham seemed to find the bells really annoying so I took them off!
I can see why he likes the purple tunnel under the shelf, it might upset him a bit of you moved it now if he’s sleeping in it but I wondered about putting it in the open area at the front & just putting more substrate under the shelf so he can burrow under there to sleep if he wants to.

Yes, might see if he allows some rearrangement when he is awake later.
Will let you all know how I get on.

In the meantime, I've been trying to learn Adobe illustrator and I couldn't think of a better subject for a little digital paint

Absolutely love that! You really caught his expressive face
I've used Illustraor a bit but vectors have never been my strong point!

Aw thanks
It's good fun I find, but I should definitely be getting on with more productive things
