Superb cage. Where did you get it? Not that I need any more cages, I have at least 7 and only 2 in use! I am jist very interested in cages.

Hi, and thank you!

I actually didn't no, I had so much on my mind and was rushing about, plus knowing I was gonna keep him I didn't even think to do so. Would it still be worth doing so, you think?

Thanks again

Thanks so much! I bought it from 'Zooplus'. It's called the Skyline Small Pet Terrarium Marrakesh

They struggle with needing to find homes anyway so I doubt if you reported they'd take the hammy away from you. Personally I'd still call it in, they may keep an eye on the area, it's likely it was a random dumping but you never know

Such a lucky Syrian hamster, he is the spitting image of my Polo with his markings. I agree with bedding depth, he will most definitely jump from that top shelf, they kind of hang suspended by their back legs then just plop! Lots of bedding and nothing he could land on so he just bounces, he will probably want to climb up too. Just observe him and see what he wants to do to make it more accessible for him. Not sure how the shelves are built but maybe sawing a little off each of the separate legs would make it more accessible and safe, you will know from watching him though.
How is he to touch and hold?

Aww, I can see yours in your PFP! They're twins Got some more bedding today and will be in the process of adding that in very soon That's a good idea about sawing them down a little; will be keeping an eye on him regardless. Thank you for the advice!

I haven't really handled him much yet and when I've put food in and my hand has been near, he's quite jumpy. Monday will be two weeks since I've had him, and he's already transfered from one cage to another so I want him to properly settle in his new home. Plus I'm away for a few days soon so maybe when I get back I'll start the taming process.

Although, would that still be too soon? I'm happy to give him another couple weeks if needs be. I really don't want to stress him out.

Hi and congrats on finding your new little pal!
Hard to believe he was abandoned.
I think starting taming when you get back from your trip leaves plenty of time for him to settle. You could start by sitting next to his cage reading a book out loud with your hand in the cage with a treat on it. (You just have to find a book that he'll find interesting!)

Hi there, I am new to the forum as well; we also have a rescue hamster, but not from a random box. That is amazing! I do think you should still report it, just so they have a heads up. Maybe they can even track down people in that area who somewhat recently purchased a hamster and perhaps track down the offending owner. Probably a long shot, but who knows.
