Default Nanuk back at the vet

Last week my little Winter White hybrid Nanuk had a scent gland blockage and while examining him, I noticed that there was a tiny lump on his tummy just to the side of his scent gland. I showed the vet when he was in getting his scent gland cleaned and she said it was too small to tell if it was a lump or if it was just an innocuous skin bump.

I was advised to monitor it and bring him back if it grows, which it has done to some extent. Last night I gave him a thorough check and noticed that is is slightly bigger but that the skin around it is a darker colour too.

Having lost two beloved dwarves to tumours, I am very vigilant now and so I've brought him in to be checked.

I'm holding thumbs that it all goes well as Nanuk is very very special to me.

Thanks Ria P. The vet saw him and suggested that the lump is removed as soon as possible so I've booked him in tomorrow, poor little boy. He's 18 months old now but is very strong and active so I hope the surgery goes ok.

That's not good news and i'm sorry to hear that Nanuk has to go through surgery. Are they going to do a biopsy on the tissue to check whether it is cancerous or not?

Thank you everybody for your kind words. Nanuk has just come out of surgery and I will be fetching him to come home at 16h00.

I still need to speak to the vet about what he found.

Would a 'hospital cage' with just a house and clean bedding be a good idea for the first few days or would he be happier in his normal cage?

He may be a little dopey so for the first night after anaesthesia I would recommend a hospital cage with just a house, food and water, maybe a small tunnel. One night of no enrichment is not going to harm him. He may be a bit frustrated but it is for his own good, as they can end up falling off things etc. I am sure your vet will advise what to do, but this is what my vets advise.
I would give him bedding/substrate out of his normal cage so he has something familiar.

Glad he got through the op ok, been thinking of you.
