Good to hear he came through the op ok.
I’d agree with what Luna said about a hospital cage.

Thanks everyone. He is home now and slept much of the afternoon but has emerged and to my horror I found him monkey barring across his ceiling. He then came down and wanted mealworms (he chews on his bars for this).

I've set his cage up as a hospital cage by removing his wheels and seesaw and sand box and all other obstacles or things he can climb on, leaving a tunnel and deep Kaytee Clean n Cozy.

I'm so glad he came through surgery ok and already has an appetite. That's definitely a good sign.

Does Nanuk have stiches or did they glue him?
Just wondering if you should attach some cardboard to the ceiling to stop the little monkey from monkey barring so soon after surgery.

Thanks Ria P. I took your advice and put kitchen cutting boards on top of his cage. He has always been a very active ham and I think he was missing his wheel.

He has stitches which is interesting as last time he had a lump removed he was glued.

Will they check the tissue in the lab?

I asked the vet and he said that the lumps were not sent to the lab as they were fatty tissue which he said are most usually benign and that Nanuk has another six or seven small ones which became evident when he shaved Nanuk to make the incision.

He removed the main lump and another one about 1cm to the side of it which I didn't know was there but he explained that unless they begin impeding Nanuk's comfort or if they become infected, they can be left.

Nanuk seems to be recovering well and is on Metacam for the pain and inflammation. It seems to be working as he has been on his wheel a bit this evening.

I gave him some basmati rice as a treat which he loved.

Mixed news and good that they are mostly likely to be benign but not so good because there are more.
Got to be positive though and hope that they don't grow or at least slowly if they do.
You got another excuse now to spoil Nanuk something rotten which i'm pretty sure you do anyway, lol.
I'm glad that Nanuk is recovering from his surgery and life will soon go back to normal for him. Nanuk won't worry about the lumps and just get on with enjoying his hamster life with you.
