What breed is my hamster please?
Hey everyone. My syrian hamster Pippim very sadly passed away recently and i was heartbroken but today I got this little cutie from pre-loved classifieds. My daughter has named him cookie. Im not sure what breed he is as the advert didn't say and I forgot to ask.
Also the wheel i have is way to big for him as my current wheel is 30cm (i was planning on getting another syrian and then fell in love with this one. What size wheel would you recommend I buy him?

It’s asking for login to see the photo so you need to make it public or look at this thread which shows how to upload photos to the forum.

For any species other than Syrian a 8 or 9” wheel is best. I use the silent runner (not silent spinner!) for my Russian & Chinese hams.

Re: What breed is my hamster please?
Cookie is a Russian hybrid, looks very sweet
Just in case you’re not aware you do need to feed a dwarf specific diet, Russians are prone to diabetes so you need to take care not to feed sweet foods, no treats with honey or any kind of sugars, fresh veg is fine but I wouldn’t give fruit to a hybrid.
There aren’t really any good dwarf mixes in the UK but Rodipet do a very good food.
