Default Silly Stories of Things Hamsters Have Done

Hey everyone! It has been a bit since I've posted, but I wanted to just have a general chat to hear some silly stories about our hamsters.

Today, I went into my Russian Hybrids cage to do a bit of spot cleaning as well as putting a terracotta plant pot plate thing into her cage to try to help grind her nails down so they don't become too long. Anyway, I thought her nest was on the other side of her enclosure, but apparently she moved without my knowledge. I lifted one of her hides that I was going to move to put the plate down. To my surprise, she looks up staring at me chittering almost in a way like she was cuss me out for waking her. I apologized profusely and put the hide back down and she calmed down immediately.

My Syrian is a silly little thing as well. She quickly learned that if she throws her toys against the side of her enclosure, I'll come take her out. Sometimes it can be a bit of a pain when she wants to come out at 5 AM and starts throwing things around making so much noise LOL

I'm sure I've posted about this on the forum multiple times by now, but I once had a female Syrian in a bin without a lid(huge mistake). I learned a lesson the hard way by waking up to a hamster somehow on my bed and actually in front of my face. I believe I was specifically woken up by the sensation of being tickled by little whiskers, and this all might sound adorable but it is extremely dangerous for the hamster involved. Needless to say I learned very quick that a secure lid is an absolute must for all hamsters!

I’m glad she was okay. It does sounds cute that she went and found you, but I understand how scary it can be when you find out your hamster is not in their cage. My Syrian female was escaping from her cage and going back in to go to sleep without me realizing it. One of the corners of her lid was loose and she took advantage. I only found out because I woke up late a night hearing scratching behind my bed and when I looked she was there digging at the carpet. She even brought a couple small chew toys out with her. There was other things down with her that made me realize it wasn’t just her first time out. Really panicked me because I have multiple dogs.
