Smile I'm a newbie to hamster care

Hey there, I rescued a hamster a month ago and we asked around on Face book and all of that. I just need confirmation because my family have checked everywhere in our local area and no one claimed my hamster. It is definitely a pet but I just wanted to know if it is morally right to catch a hamster when it is in the wild. I have had my hamster for a month now and we have all the stuff necessary but can you tell me if what I have done is moral.

You totally did the right thing. This hamster has either escaped or someone had dumped it, you have saved it's life. If no one has come forward to claim it I wouldn't worry about it. You did a GOOD thing.

Agree . Do ask if you need any tips for caring for him. Cages, contents etc - you could make him a very happy hamster.

Thanks, this has made me feel much more comfortable about keeping it. I have all the equipment needed.

Do introduce him/her! It would be lovely to see a photo. Does the hammy seem tame? They can have all kinds of behavioural issues while settling and many experienced owners on here who can help with any issues. Common ones are after moving - it can take them a couple of weeks to settle in a new cage so best not to clean out or move things around in the first two weeks. They’re usually happy with plenty of substrate and nesting material a good sized house to build a big cosy nest in (that‘a open underneath and sat directly in the substrate so they can bury hoards under the nest and burrow down). A shoebox house is ideal Plain white toilet paper torn into strips is good safe nesting material- a pile of it. And they like it.
