Default Nail in wood shavings!

I've just cleaned Freya's cage, and found an old bent nail, just over one inch long, which I think must have come from her bag of wood shavings; there certainly doesn't seem to be anywhere else it might have come from. It's not a brand I've bought before, but the only one that was available when I needed some. I'm glad I found it before it caused her any harm, but I'm just posting this now because I recall recently someone on the forum posting about something they had found in their substrate. Hopefully it's not a common occurrence - but has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds awful. I would switch brands. There are lots of good alternatives to wood shavings as well. I buy fitch in bulk. Kaytee clean and cozy is good too. Or Zooplus sell hemp bedding in bulk.

Thanks for your reply. I won't be buying it again! I do use Kaytee clean and cozy too, for a deep burrowing section -and Freya seems to be very happy with that.

If you want to try something that works out cheaper then try Fitch - it's very similar to Kaytee clean and cozy but you can buy a 10kg back for about £23.That lasts me about 6 months or more with spot cleaning and the bag isn't too big to squish under a chair or something. It's about the size of a child's beanbag chair.

I've removed the brand name from your post but I would advise that you contact the company's customer services department with your findings. It may just be a one off but it's important that they are made aware of it in case other people are also having the same problem and they need to review their manufacturing methods.

Yes - good idea to contact the customer services department of the company. Thanks, Fluffagrams - I will see if I can find where they are located. Thank you also for removing the brand name of the product.
