Where is the best place to put your hamster?
I saw another post about keeping a hamster in a bathroom, and i decided, i want to know where the best and most safe place there is for your hamsters cage.
I no, its not ideal, but Milo is kept in the corner of the dining room by the patio door (No drafts get it, and he's always warm when i get him out), on the floor (although, im pestering mom to get a cheap table to put his cage on) There is just no room at all i my bedroom, its a small box room, and although we have a bigish house, the design, and how the furniture is laied out - theres no room to be honest for a hamster. In the winter, i gave Milo alot of extra bedding, and now the temperature is starting to warm up a bit, ive given him less hes just curled up in the corner of the cage - (although he's left loads on the floor, as he couldnt find the right spot and i found him in a new place every morning!)
Is it an OK spot for him? As i said, he's always warm when i go to check on him

My cage is in the corner of my room, close to the window and the heating, but on the side of it so light and heat do not go directly to him, and he is on a approx. one meter aquarium so he is not on the floor and he is in the comfortable zone when i sit next to him - i can sit on the edge of my bed and reach out to him.

Re: Where is the best place to put your hamster?
I'm going to try and move Peanut into the living room now that the radiators are off (the cupboard space is next to the radiator - didnt want him to cook...) but that means moving my stereo, and then it wont be near the cds, and I'm quite anal about things like that!! So he may have to stay where he is!!
He is currently in my sons room, but we live in a flat and so he is pretty much in the hub of it all anyway. When my son goes to bed Peanut comes in to the living room anyway, so he gets to move about quite a bit.
The only thing with them being floor level is the vibrations they may feel when you move about, but maybe that doesnt affect them.

We keep our hamster in the corner of the lounge. So corners are just fine as long as they are draught free and not in direct sunlight/heat. We have a table for our cage but in the past have kept their cages on the floor and they have been fine.

Oh ok, wicked But, yeah im going to get my mom to just get a cheap table from the charity shop or something - because i hate having to sit down or something when i want to visit him. And i dont think vibrations bother him, my dog will jump about playing and he wont even lift his head!

Re: Where is the best place to put your hamster?
I think a corner is suitable - it's difficult to make a centre display out of a hamster! I, however, managed to do just that! The way my room is laid out means that I have a lot of room in the middle. So I bought a table and there's a chair by it and my hamster's cage is sat on top of the cage.
I'm going to have trouble soon though. I'm planning to get a fish tank this weekend and some time in the near future I'll be getting a leopard gecko and I don't think I can keep them all on the same table.
Only one conclusion: I gotta move! (No worries - I'm planning to move anyway.)

Re: Where is the best place to put your hamster?
Is it ok to keep a hamster in the lounge. I’ve heard it’s not as the noise from the TV. It’s the only place I would keep it if I got one.
When I used to own hamsters they were kept in the lounge in the corner, and I had no problems with them there, but that was many years ago and things have changed with what’s best for hamsters since then.
I live in a bungalow with all internal doors wide open to allow for a constant temperature inside, so where ever I put it there won’t be a quiet place.

Noisy & quiet are a bit subjective really, you don't want your ham where there's going to be a lot of loud noise but they soon get used to normal household noises, I've always kept mine in a living room with no problems at all.
