You have a valid point with the spindle and the fact that a hamster could fall on top of it. I have seen lightweights like our robo do a full circle and fall out of the wheel but not the one he has now because it has a wider running surface.

After giving it some thought, of about two minutes, i packed up the comfort wheel and returned it to Amazon because i don't want it anymore, the spindle did bother me but i didn't know exactly why until you enlightened me. Thank you.
Fair enough. I just didn't want you to feel like you have to that's all.

That's an interesting observation. I've only watched them spin around and around or in a banana shape if that makes sense.

No problem? The spindle bothers me but I know many people use them with no problem. But I was going off what I've seen Niko do. The Syrians don't do it so they have the plastic Trixie wheel which has a spindle so I needn't worry. However when I get dwarf species afterwards, it may become an issue hence why I'm looking now rather than panic at the last minute.

I use the Silent runner 9" for all my Russians & Chinese, I've been using them for years now & all the hams have done well with them, very well made, silent & easy to clean, no problems at all.
I think they may be a bit hard to get hold of at the moment but they are usually available online from a couple of places.

i guess the wooden one might be quieter but my hamster pees in his wheel so the wooden one would be harder to clean because of this

Wooden wheels are fine if painted with plastikote water based enamel before use.

I'd need to practically drown the wheel in plastikote before Niko could use it lol
