Default Baldrick changing colour?

Little Baldrick, my 6 month old Russian Dwarf hybrid who has always been medium grey in colour with a darker stripe down his back has, over the past two weeks, developed white patches on his coat and has lightened in colour overall.

It is winter here now, so he is probably following natural patterns?

This is fascinating however as my other Russian Dwarf hybrids have not changed colour before.

Does this mean he has more Winter White in his genes?

I've attached photos below...the first two are now, the third was a month ago.

I'm not too sure what it could be, but I wanted to say he is an adorable little guy! I love his little ears perked up in the second photo.

Russian hybrids have been known to change colour in winter although it is quite unusual, all my Russians have changed colour a fair bit though as they got older, it will be interesting to see if he changes back in the spring!

I meant to ask before. How is Baldrick aside from being his cute self? Has he gained weight again? Did you find out what caused the weight loss? I may have missed some posts with work interfering with life.

I totally agree. I love his ears. There is something about hamster's ears that is so endearing.

He is very cute indeed! Our dwarf ham Boo used to have an entirely white tummy but it is now mainly grey. It is interesting to see how their colours change x

My russian hybrid also changed colors over time. You can see the white arches above the eyes in one pic and now they are gone. I hope the arches come back in winter

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I've attached a few more photos of Baldrick...he's really a very light gray and white mottled pattern now with just a faint gray line down his back. He has developed white 'eyebrows' too which he never had before. Quite unlike any of my other hamsters who seem to just lighten or darken a tiny bit with the seasons but generally keep the same markings.

Ria P, he has lost a bit more weight, he is now at 43 grams but seems very active and healthy. I took him to the vets for a full checkup and they said he is in fine fettle including his teeth etc and that in some instances seasonal weight loss or gain can be very drastic and at six months old, our winter here coincided with him reaching adulthood so that might explain it. I got an oral dewormer for all three of my little ones just in case too.

I love seeing pics of the gradual colour change. Baldrick is gorgeous.

Thanks Thin Lizzy. Yes, it is fascinating how their colours gradually change. Baldrick is the first ham I've had who has changed so drastically.

Yes, Edwina's fur lightened quite a bit as she grew, not that she grew much and her dorsal stripe seems more noticable now.
