Default Bean makes his escape

So I had one of those little fold-up wire fences to contain the Bean during floor time. The box said it's for "Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Mice". Oreo, my dwarf, managed to push his head through a space between panels (I intervened before the rest of him could follow), but Bean, my Syrian, wouldn't fit between, so he climbed over. I looked away for a few minutes, and when I looked back, he was wandering around on the other side of the fence (next to the fridge, dishwasher, and other hidey holes!). Sigh.

So I shut him in the bathroom, using his bin lid (which he doesn't need on his bin, since he can't [I hope!] climb the 12" plastic walls).

Well, then he started shimmying up the door jam! When he got about a foot off the (very hard) ground, I nabbed him.

I have some coroplast; I guess I'll see what can be done with that.

Here he is making his latest escape:

Haha, Bean is so cute!

Could you hamster proof a room and let him free roam? That's the only out of cage time that appeals to my Syrian, when he's in the mood that is. In a play pen he just sits and sulks.

What a little rascal. Maybe you should rename him "Steve McQueen" from the film The Great Escape.
He's a beauty!

Bean is adorable!
They really are little escape artists. I had one years ago that was kept downstairs and I woke up to him crawling around my bedroom floor which was across the house and upstairs. I quickly renamed him Houdini LOL

I have the wood playpen from Zooplus - Syrians can’t get over it . Although you need to keep toys (aka vaulting ramps) away from the edges. They don’t seem to sell it any more but it’s available on eBay. It wasn’t cheap - about £25 - but then I spent about that on coroplast before for a home made one. That one was difficult to keep Hamster proof as light (easily lifted at a corner) and chewable.

I wouldn’t use the bathroom- too many hamsters have been lost in bathrooms - holes where pipes go down through the floor and especially under the bath - and yes they get under the bath panel.

I hamster proofed our living room instead and stuff things in front of the gap under the door. I currently use part of the wood playpen to fence off one corner so they can’t get inside a shelved alcove where wall has gaps at the bottom.
