Default Male vs female dwarf hamsters - smell

Not a problem as much as curiosity, but I've noticed that Carbon smells more than Cadmium did and I was wondering if this is a male thing, a new home thing or a Carbon thing. Or a mixture of the three I suppose.

It doesn't smell bad, it reminds me of wood shavings and I've noticed it most around his house/nest. I'm not sure if he's peeing in his nest (Cadmium was always a nest-pee-er) but I know he uses the sand bath for that.

So what's your experience been? Have your boys been smellier or girls?

My dwarf girl doesn't smell at all but there is a musky scent about the boys.

I've never really had a smell issue with any of my males, my female could be slightly smelly when she was in heat but otherwise nothing really noticeable with any of them tbh.
It could be peeing in the nest, I usually put a small dish of sand in the house for my Russians & they will usually use that.

I'm trying him with a dish of sand in the house, but I'm not sure if he'll use it; Cadmium used to kick the sand out and then use the dish to store her hoard XD
