Talking about rescues. Here's a treat. A little while ago i fostered a male white dwarf who had been kept with females. The three females, two of them white, were in the rescue on pregnancy watch. Here is the result. Two weeks old and came out of the nest for the first time today and there are probably more.
Adorable!

Where are you Ria - thinking of your robo

That is such a tiny, cute, little hamster!

It sounds like Freddie the Robo is very lucky to have you looking out for him and making sure he has a suitable home.

Aww thank you ria. I have learnt so much since joining the forum and it is good to share experiences of our beautiful hams - all of them so different with their funny little ways. Where would we be without them??????? X

I currently have a young male Syrian foster hamster living in my Samla who is vocal which fascinates me.
He squawked and chattered like a guinea pig while in the car, screeched at me when i had to wake him up and this evening he grunted like a pig while playing in his sand pit.

Yes, Henry squeaked once and makes little noises while dreaming on the rare occasion, Edwina muttered on her first day and Gordon squeaks with annoyance when i don't put him back in his tank quickly enough but never a peep from either Percy or Ozzy.

I had a screeching foster dwarf once when i woke him by mistake but nothing in the same league as Rory's range of vocals.

Will he go quiet eventually or do some hamsters always express themselves vocally?

What a cutie. I find once they get more settled the scared screaching stops. When you move him to his new permanent home that may set him off again I would say it depends how settled he has become with you. But the other noises he makes may stay around. Some are just more verbal than others.
I don't think I ever heard a sound out of Star, Luna made happy chuntering sounds when eating. Sunny and Twinkle on the other hand... twinkle makes all sort of noises these days, it was really bad after his accident but calmed down a lot now but if he wants down out of my hands he makes noises, not screaches but more like little squeaks. Sunny screached when she first arrived and when I took her to the vets I thought it would set her off again but I think because I was with her and she had bonded with me she was fine, which was a relief and a surprise.

Rory quit the screeching after two days and settled in surprisingly quickly considering that he was such a scared little baby. I spent the first few days talking to him and then slowly introduced him to touch. He is now easy to pick up and i can stroke him while he runs about on me or the futon. I'll wait till he grows a bit bigger and more confident and then put him up for adoption. He's a sweet hamster and will only move into a home i consider suitable.
