Thanks. It is important to get an idea because i always try to find the hamster a good match. It's not all about cage size. Other things are equally as important.
I see myself as a stepping stone to a good life.

That is what makes you such a special person. You take time to get to know a hamsters personality.

Re: Foster hamsters
Ria, what other traits do you use when trying to gauge a hamster's age other than energy and speed? From what I've read it sounds like they get fully grown rather quickly?

Yes, they grow very quickly and vary in size a lot. With a hamster of unknown background like Romy, it's not possible to tell their age.
I'm guessing by what i was told and Romy's appearance and behaviour.

Re: Foster hamsters
Romy was in the playground again tonight.
I don't know what it is with dwarf girls and feet. Whenever i sit around barefoot, i get nipped. Our bare feet were irresistable to Clarissa and she just had to nip someone's heel. Edwina and Betsy sat on feet but didn't nip.
Earlier today Gertie nipped my big toe and just now Romy nipped my little toe!
The Syrians never bother with anything like that. They just get under my feet.
Must remember to wear socks.

Re: Foster hamsters
Someone kindly donated a Hamster Heaven to me her female Syrian tried to chew her way out of. The Syrian girl had an upgrade and the damage was easily sorted by meshing it from the outside.
So, i decided to have a play and use the green shelf including the, eeek, Pink hut and stuff i had in various boxes. Then mixed red and white plastikote to add more pink, yuk.
Aimed at a dwarf girlie who is very desperate for a new home.
Now, where's the green blanket to cover the cage up before i overdose on pink and get a headache...
Btw, pink's not my favourite colour.

Re: Foster hamsters
You did a great job of that. Is it to go with Romy when she is adopted? I was not sure who the dwarf girlie was.

The dwarf girlie hasn't arrived yet. No idea who is going to move in. If it's a boy, tough luck.
It's just a cage that was given to me a couple of days ago, i repaired it and then set it up with what i had. It's sitting on a dolly trolley under Rory's table at the moment.
Clive the little monkey, climbs around on it.
I washed the cage before i repaired it and then didn't want to store it in the greenhouse because i'd have to wash it again, should i need it.
