Re: Foster hamsters
Thank you both for sound advice.
Yes, i'll wait and see for a couple of weeks to find out how he gets on with this tank. I've just papered two walls to reduce the light in the evening and will put up some fairy lights about 50cm above his tank so maybe i can watch him tonight from across the room with just the two sets of fairy lights on.
Once i get the smaller ceramic mushroom i'll put in another bendy bridge running along the backwall.
I went to Hobbycraft today to get the tank wallpaper and didn't have enough willpower not to go into the petshop next door. I haven't seen any hamsters in the adoption centre for many months and who was there today but two Robos.
I really wished that petshops wouldn't stock so many Robos because they always seem to be the ones getting returned for the usual reasons. Tiny cute hamster was bought as a child's toy or people bought a pair and then its only a matter of time before one gets returned for fighting when people don't want to fork out for a second cage and set up.
I had to walk out in a hurry.
Wished i had lots of spare money so i didn't have to work.
It would be the beginning of Ria's Robo Retreat.
Dream on....sigh.

Re: Foster hamsters
Aw his tank set up looks really amazing. Good luck with your decision.
Glad I no longer live near a pet shop which sells animals, too tempting!

Re: Foster hamsters
Thanks.
Lucky you! I'm surrounded by them and Skye, my car, refuses to drive past one.
I glanced at my backseat the other day and saw a diet coke, a cheese sandwich and a packet of mealworms. That kind of sums me up.

Re: Foster hamsters
I got sidetracked into the adoption section of a well known petshop and saw three Robos in their individual tanks so i enquired. Surprise surprise, they had all been returned for fighting with other hamsters BUT in almost the same sentence the assistant assured me that Robos are sociable with their own kind. Really?
When i asked what colour they were he said that they are all brown because that is the only colour Robos come in. So i showed him a photo of foster Robo Robby to be told that he is a Russian dwarf hamster. Yeah?
I decided to take a Robo home to rehome but most of my spare hamster stuff is girlie so i chose the girl but they were unsure of her age and the tablet said that she was three years old.
The Robo boy on the left kept looking at me and pawed the glass then tried to dig his way out. Fine but you have to deal with a pink wheel.
The Duna Multy set up was inspired by sushi 78's Duna Multy set up which i looked up and copied the sectioned off deep substrate area on the left with the wheel low down on the right. I placed it in a cake tin filled with sand.
Gerald looks a bit thin but our resident Robo Monty makes any Robo look skinny.
I will put 3 months old Gerald up for adoption end of the week.
Here's a spot the Robo photo.

Re: Foster hamsters
ha, sucked in again Ria
I think you will be fine colourwise, they won't be able to tell the difference really, although some thought is that they can see blue and green

I did because the front of the perspex was badly marked but i should have made the window wider which i may do once Gerald has been adopted or i can source another Duna Multy.
Got a lovely photo of Gerald but the perspex is dull in that spot which spoils it.

Re: Foster hamsters
The cage setup definitely looks familiar! It worked nicely for Pumpkin.
Robos are addictive I think. I miss having one so much.
