I know. I would need to stop looking at ads altogether as in not at all, ever again.

Then i think of all the hamsters that have been successfully rehomed or i look at some of ours and consider what their lives could have been like had i not responded to these ads and taken them home as a result.......

Frances has been adopted today and moved into a detolf.

I'm so happy that both Robo girls have found wonderful homes so quickly and can now live the lives they deserve.

After giving up trying to give up fostering and rehoming two Robos ago, i got another today.
Robby is well over a year old, lived in a Spelos and was put in a hamster ball.
He disappeared into the house of his temporary home a few hours ago. The house is full of soft white Kaytee so he may well be enjoying a comfy and snuggly bed for the first time.
I started using Carefresh in other parts because it holds up hides and toys well.

I've added more substrate and a bigger sandbath then put Robby's wheel in it because he goes so fast that he falls off.

Hmm, not sure what to do about this one.
I put him up for adoption but took him off again because he's a phantom hamster. Lights off and he's on his wheel but soon as i switch on a light he dives into his house. He loves that house. I briefly took the roof off to check on him because i was a bit concerned but there he was sniffing up at me. A hoard next to his bed and a peeing corner at the far end. He made himself at home.

He's already 15 months old and i'm so so tempted to let him live out his life here. But i don't have any space left for a bigger habitat for him and the tank is only 80cmx30cm.

Gordon happily lived in this tank and never showed any signs of stress.
Monty who is a big Robo scrabbled on the walls so i moved him into the spare Hamster Heaven and he's happy now.
Robby is tiny like Gordon was. He seems to be happy just to be out of that awful Spelos he came in.

Dilemma. What do i do?
That's his current set up but i ordered a smaller ceramic mushroom to replace the big toad stool.

Hello Ria!

I think it looks gorgeous and although it is on the small side, this might have to do as he will not be easy to adopt. Would you be able to add another bendy bridge on the other side of the wheel? robos love running around in their enclosure and I try to have a whole circuit of bridges and platforms so mine can go in circles (if that makes sense). In any case, at 15 months it is tempting to just leave him be, knowing you'll take such good care of him. Aren't robos supposed to live longer than other hamsters?

I have more bendy bridges and Gordon's set up had more in this tank. I'm a bit reluctant to change too much while he's so insecure and hiding away so much but may do that later, if i keep him here. He doesn't even tunnel or burrow yet because he only had about an inch of woodchips.

I have rehomed older hamsters before so don't think that would be a problem but may take a bit longer.

I just can't make up my mind whether its a good idea to uproot him again and keep him in a smallish tank or to give him the chance of a bigger and better home.
Wished they could talk.

Robo Gordon died at 2 years old. He fell off his house roof one day which was almost level with the substrate at that point because he had gone blind and that was that.

I lost a diabetic dwarf to a suspected stroke at only 13 months and Syrian Henry was 22 months. Potluck like with humans i think.

Why don't you just give yourself a few days/weeks and see how it goes and how you feel about it all.
That way you can see how he is coping in the cage.
I agree with you I am beginning to think it is pot luck with how long hamsters live, regardless of how they have been bred and kept, very much the same as humans. He could live for another year and half, more than that, or less... who knows. I never expected to have Star for nearly a year as she was approx 3 when she died.
