New girl Betsy is a beautiful, six months old, caramel coloured, red eyed russian dwarf hybrid hamster who has moved into one of my spare Hamster Heavens today.

Her new habitat is a major upgrade from her previous cage and she's been busy trying out new things like rolling around in a sandbath!

Betsy will eventually go up for adoption with her new habitat but first of all i need to get to know her a bit, once she's settled in to be able to find her a suitable forever home.

Ha! So much for settling in. Last night Betsy came to her door, climbed on my hand without hesitation and had a good time running around the hamster playground.
She's not fidgety like most new hamsters and calmly sits in my hand (with my other hand covering just in case) to get carried around.

She is adorable. Loving the way you have set up her cage.

That's it. I have given up rehoming. It doesn't work for us because my OH refuses to let Betsy go.

She is extremely tame and friendly but we now have seven resident hamsters!!

There were suitable people asking to adopt her but every time i mentioned that my OH looked utterly miserable.

I have just donated some spare cages to the rescue but will keep a spare Hamster Heaven, the Grosvenor and the Duna Multy in case i need a hospital cage for Edwina.

I'd still be happy to foster for the rescues if needed and collect hamsters for them but i am not going to rehome myself again.

It is far far too easy to get attached to hamsters and vetting people is hugely time consuming because one has to get it 100% right with little hamster's lives at stake.

Betsy seems very happy to stay and has settled in so quickly.

I know i said that i'm no longer rescuing/rehoming hamsters.....but....what does one do when one comes across two Robos sharing a two storey cage and sleeping in fluffy hamster wool bedding?

The reason why the previous owner was no longer able to look after them was a very genuine one. They were misguided by the petshop but cared about the hamsters and their future.
When i made an offer and explained that i'd find them a good home, no matter how long it takes, they were relieved and happy to let me take them without their cage.

6 months old Robo sisters Frances and Agnes now live in their own temporary habitats until i find them a forever home with a bigger and better permanent habitat.

They appear not to have fallen out but i have separated them because i consider it far too risky to keep hamsters in pairs.
